We offloaded our maximum capacity of cohos today, and only #2ed one fish. Now we're happy campers headed for the Hydaburg festivities. We're going to try to catch this evening's slack at Tlevak Narrows.

You know you're procrastinating when after a leisurely breakfast at the Dockside in Craig, you drive all the way to Klawock to pick up a couple of items that you can just as easily get in Craig, then drive around in circles in both Craig and Klawock. Follow that with two more store stops, and multiple visits with your fishing vessels on the dock. Fun stuff and a sure sign that it's time to get off the beach again. We are now underway.
Lots of land-based activities today: laundry, boat cleaning, fish-processing, and taking a drive to Thorne Bay that included berry-picking and black bear sighting.
Today was a spectacular day off from fishing chores. The timing was finally right to get my act together to play at Mass fit St. John's by the Sea in Klawock. Wonderful setting!
We followed this with a spectacular hike up behind the quarry in honor of our friend Dean Waterman, who did not make it up here this season. Next year, Dean! What a view! I didn't think I was in good enough shape to do it. But the old legs still work well uphill. Wow. We didn't even untie the lines today! Nice to have a day off, but will also be nice to get underway again soon. The eagles were back at it again today. It's all a good sign. We're also hearing reports about a few coho returning to some of the nearby grounds. All we need is our depth finder to come in the mail.
On another note, Shawn installed a nice tie-down system for the harp in the fo'c'sl. It turns out that it's actually pretty easy to play the harp inside the boat in the same position as at home. In some ways, it's easier to play this harp on our boat than my smaller one, since I don't have to strap it onto myself. We're spending a lot more time out of Internet range this year, with slow connections. Not a bad thing, really. So the basic boat log is now being recorded using Evernote, so that I can post offline, then sync with Twitter and Facebook. Decent king season for us. We offloaded yesterday, which coincides the the closure. We'll be in town for the next couple of days, waiting for a new transducer. Our depth finder wigged out on opening day. Good thing I had my numbers well marked from last year. It's a little like using last year's lesson plans, only with different classes.
